2024 Distinguished Alumni Awards Douglas Klingberg, J.D. ’63 and Betty Jo (Jaggard) Klingberg ’63 2024 Pioneer Service Award The Klingberg’s loyalty to Carroll is evident in their student recruitment, hosting regional alumni events, and serving as class fundraising volunteers. They organized the Wausau alumni phonathon, made matching gift donations, and contributed as OMS Executive Committee members. Betty Jo served on Carroll’s Board of Trustees, Alumni Council, and Parent Council, and both led reunion committees, including their 60th Reunion. They also established the Class of 1963 Endowed Scholarship Fund and two additional scholarships. Doug and Betty Jo met at Carroll, where they were active students and later continued their support as alumni. Their legacy continues with their children, also Carroll alumni, completing three generations of family at Carroll. John Harris ’86 2024 Distinguished Alumni Award for Community Service John Harris is dedicated to environmental stewardship and social equity. Harris studied communication and business at Carroll, later co-founding a5 Branding & Digital with his wife, Clarice Osiecki Harris ’88. They specialize in branding, marketing and communications to create healthy, sustainable communities. Harris’ commitment to the environment is evident in his work with GreenTown: The Future of Community, a sustainability experience to connect public and private sectors to develop strong, renewable areas. Harris also helped launch the Oak Park Homelessness Coalition, a 50-plus member working group whose goal is to end homelessness in Oak Park. Additionally, he and his wife established a scholarship for first-generation students at Triton Community College in Illinois. Joe Zvesper ’76 2024 Distinguished Alumni Award for Professional Achievement: The Sullivan School of Business and Technology Joe Zvesper, known for his strategic thinking and ability to motivate employees, became CEO of American Appraisal in 2004. After starting his career at PwC, he joined American Appraisal in 1993, leading a management buyout and expanding the firm’s global presence. Under his leadership, the company grew its revenues by 525% and increased its international operations. After its sale to Duff & Phelps, now Kroll, Zvesper continued in executive roles and serves as a principal at Jacsten LLC. Elected to Carroll’s board of trustees in 2013, he funded a major challenge grant and is recognized for his thoughtful leadership and significant contributions to alumni engagement. Saundra Johnston Tracy, Ph.D. ’68 2024 Distinguished Alumni Award for Professional Achievement: School of Education & Human Services Saundra Johnston Tracy, was the first female president of Alma College, serving for nine years and retiring in 2010.
