1940s John G. Davies ’48 passed away on Jan. 26, 2024. John is survived by his daughter, Nancy Davies. He was preceded in death by his wife, Joan (Beer) Davies ’49; brother, Paul Davies ’49; and sister-in-law, Patricia (Kraus) Davies ‘48. John’s father was the Rev. Zac Davies ’14 and Professor Emeritus of Bible (Religious Studies) for his entire career. Richard “Dick” H. Walter ’48 passed away late on the evening of May 25, 2022, in Las Vegas, NV at the age of 96. Richard is survived by his sons Rick, Greg and other family members. At the age of 95, Gordon Samuel Mann ’49 went home to the Lord and to his wife Barbara (Chapin) Mann ’50, on on June 26, 2023. He leaves behind two children, six grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren. 1950s Donald M. Moncher ’50 of Phoenix, Arizona, peacefully died on June 15, 2024, at the age of 98 surrounded by his family. A devoted husband and father, he was most proud of his family and considered them his greatest blessing. At Carroll, Don met the love of his life, Bette (Johnson) Moncher ’53, whom he was married to for 61 years before she passed in 2013. Don was inducted into the Carroll Athletic Hall of Fame in 1984, as is his son, Tim Moncher ’76, who was inducted in 1990. Eugene “Gene” J. Bertacchini ’50, age 96, passed away peacefully on May 24, 2024, at AngelsGrace Hospice in Oconomowoc, WI. Gene was drafted while in college to serve in the U.S. Army. Due to the G.I. Bill, Gene returned to Carroll, where he earned his degree in Business Administration. He was active in Greek life as a member of the Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity, Phi Alpha Theta National History Honor Society, and Chair of the Student Senate. He will be dearly missed by his wife of 31 years, Wendy Barber Bertacchini, and his children, Sandra, Tom and Jeff. Marguerite “Marge” B. Goetsch ’50, age 97, of Neillsville, WI, passed away peacefully on Sept. 3, 2023, at her home. Marguerite is survived by her daughters, Susan Pavlovich, Lisa (Thomas) Nagel, and Debbie (Mike) Perkl, and other family members. William J. Poulos ’51 passed away on Oct. 29, 2023, at Whispering Pines Assisted Living in Plover, WI at age 94. Bill is survived by two daughters, Carrie (Gene) Hancock and Cynthia (Gery Glodowski). Alice Jean (Crofts) Morava ’52 passed away peacefully on Mar. 7, 2024, after a brief illness at Aurora Zilber Family Hospice in Wauwatosa, WI. Carroll was a central part of Alice’s identity. She was the first of her siblings to go to college. Her Presbyterian minister in Fond du Lac, along with her mother, chose Carroll for Alice. Her sister Shirley ‘54, and brothers, Sidney ‘60 and John ‘67, would follow. Four Crofts children with Carroll degrees—a legacy of which Carroll and Alice were most proud. Alice was a history major with a minor in elementary education. She was a member of Beta Chi Theta and a founding member of the Alpha Gamma Delta sorority in 1952. She served in student senate, Associated Woman’s Society, and was the prom queen in 1951. Most notable of her time at Carroll, she met her husband, Bob Morava, also from the class of 1952. Together after graduation, they built the business, Stuart W. Johnson & Co., in Lake Geneva, Wis., an equipment and supplies company to the food and dairy industries. She served on the Carroll Board of Trustees from 1990-2018. Alice was especially instrumental in helping to secure the lead gift of $5 million from her fellow classmate and friend, Michael Jaharis, class of 1950, helping make the Michael and Mary Jaharis Science Laboratories a reality. She also was extremely proud of her investment in the Crofts Morava Pavilion, which connects and bridges the east side of campus to the west reflecting the architectural integrity and preservation of historic value of Wisconsin’s first college. She is survived by her two children, Robert and Catherine. Dianne L. (Miller) Benishek ’54 age 90 of Sturgeon Bay, died Oct. 7, 2023. In 1954, she graduated from Carroll College and married fellow graduate Charles Benishek on Aug. 21, 1954. Dianne is survived by daughters Anne (Roger) Gentz, Beth (James) Eberle, and son Robert (Mary) Benishek. Donna (Johnson) Ihrcke ’54 passed away on Oct. 14, 2023, at the age of 91. Donna attended Carroll where she majored in sociology. She joined the Alpha Xi Delta sorority and developed lifelong friendships. These women regularly met for lunch for over 50 years. While at Carroll, she also met and fell in love with Irl, who was three years her junior. They married while she was still a senior in college and were married for 67 years. Suzanne M. (Saubert) Schaefer ’55 a longtime resident of Waukesha, was born to eternal life on July 6, 2024, at age 90. She earned a double major in psychology and early childhood education, was a member of Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority and met her husband, Ernst H. Schaefer ’54 while attending Carroll. She is survived by children Lee Ann (David) Overman, Tom (Michele) Schaefer, Barbara, Kim, Dawn and Rob (Annie) Schaefer. Carl A. Nell ’56 passed away at the age of 90 on June 30, 2024. While attending Carroll, Carl met his wife Arline of 68 years. He was an elementary school teacher and principal with Milwaukee Public Schools for 36 years. He has three children, two of whom also attended Carroll: Sheri, Lori ‘86 and Paul ‘83. His granddaughter Emma currently attends Carroll. Marjorie “Midge” Jean (Glass) Pinkerton ’56, at the age of 89, with her loving family by her side, passed from this earthly life peacefully on Nov. 28, 2023, to reunite with her husband and eternal heavenly family. Marjorie is survived by son Steven (Audrey) and daughter Kathryn (Mark). Robert L. Schmitke ’56 passed away peacefully on June 27, 2024, in Sarasota, FL. He lived a long and prosperous life for 90 years and 3 months, Bob grew up in Peshtigo, WI and attended Carroll University. Donna J. (Feggestad) Offerdahl ’57, loving wife, mother and grandmother, passed away on Jan. 25, 2024, at her residence in Oak Park Heights, MN at the age of 88. She was active in many Carroll activities, including student council, drama, choir, baseball and volleyball and was named Homecoming Queen and Chi Omega President. Donna earned her bachelor’s in elementary education and was immediately hired after graduation by the School District of Waukesha at Whittier School. That same year, on June 14, 1957, she married her college sweetheart, Phillip John Offerdahl. Donna is survived by her six children; Sonya (James) Gindorff, Julie (Richard) Enger, Kari (William) Weber, Eric Offerdahl, Nelson (Abbie) Offerdahl, Leif (Lorri) Offerdahl as well as many grandchildren, greatgrandchildren and Offerdahl nieces and nephews. Patricia R. (Teshnow) Tellefson ’57 was born to Eternal Life on Jan. 17, 2024, at the age of 88. She is survived by legacy family members: daughter Amy A. Surprise ’88, son Tom G. Tellefson ’84, daughterin-law Sandra L. Tellefson ’83 and grandson Ryan C. Surprise ’17. Herbert Cy “Herb” Wong, Sr. ’58 died peacefully on Jan. 26, 2024, at age 93 at Wynwood House, State College, PA. Herb served with the United States Marine Corps. He fought in the Korean War and was awarded the Purple Heart. He then graduated from Carroll with a bachelor’s of science in Biology. While at Carroll, he excelled in football as a guard and linebacker. Herbert is survived by children Susan M. Wong-Luchesi, Herbert C. (Barbara) Wong, Jr., Denise C. (Douglas) Wong Kelly, and David C. (Maggie) Wong. Robert J. Krause ’58 passed away on Mar. 27, 2024, in Louisville, Kentucky at the age of 88. Edward H. Hall ’59 passed away on Oct. 1, 2023, at the age of 86. Edward double-majored in Business Marketing & Psychology while attending Officer Candidate School for the US Marine Corp. He later served in and received an honorable discharge from the Marines. He is survived by his wife Sherry, sons Mike and Jeff, daughter-in-law, Sandy and other family members. Gerrit J.
