Judith “Judy” M. (Raye Morey) Gardner ‘59, formerly of Genesee Depot, died on Dec. 8, 2023, at the age of 86, joining her beloved husband Robert M. Gardner who predeceased her only days earlier. Judy is survived by her children: David (Monica) Sanderson, Kathy (Mark) Andrews, Bob (Sawako Nishikawa) Sanderson, Lisa (Joel) Cox and stepdaughter Rachel (Keith) Bridges. 1960s Gerald A. Gehl ’60 of Chippewa Falls, WI, passed away peacefully at home at the age of 84 on Sept. 5, 2023, with his wife at his side. Gerald’s greatest recreational pleasure was travel shared with his wife, Carol, who along with daughters, Holly Sue (Tim) Reiter and Sara Louise (Scott) Eidam, survive him. Sharon K. (D’Andrea) Melendes ’61 left this world peacefully on Feb. 29, 2024, in Summit, NJ, at the age of 85, leaving behind a legacy of community service, love, and cherished memories. After obtaining her bachelor’s degree in education from Carroll, she dedicated her life to the service of others, first as an elementary school teacher and then as a beloved substitute teacher. Sharon is survived by her husband, Robert J. Melendes, children Stephen (Marcy), Chris (Monica) and Joseph (Sofia) Melendes and other family members. John S. Budde ’63 passed away on June 15, 2024. John majored in business administration and was known for his athletic accomplishments while at Carroll, specifically in basketball. He was inducted into the Carroll Hall of Fame in 1973. He is survived by his wife, Kathlyn G. (Meccia) Budde ’62, and siblings, Peter Budde ’66 and Kathryn Budde-Jones ’74. Nancy A. (Weideman) Phelps ’63, lawyer, mother, opera lover, and Bucks fan, died at her home in Milwaukee, on Aug. 31, 2024, after a valiant battle with cancer. She was 82 years old. Nancy graduated from Marquette Law School in 1972 and practiced law for over 50 years. She was named Best Civilian Practitioner by the Milwaukee Bar. She is survived by children, Dr. Lori Phelps, Libby (Bob Stueber), Melissa McGee and other family members. Barbara A. (Crooks) LaMere ’64 passed away peacefully on June 26, 2022, at the age of 80. Barbara gardener, developing her yards into havens for a wide variety of birds. Nathan B. Clow ’67, age 78, passed away on Dec. 3, 2023, in Allure of Pinecrest, Mt. Morris, IL. Nate loved gardening, golfing, casinos, and his dogs. He is survived by his 5 step-children, Mike, Nick (Dawn), Tom (Teresa), John (Nancy), and Deb (Kevin) and other relatives. On May 5, 2024, Terry A. Berger ’68 of Englewood, FL died suddenly and unexpectedly several days post-surgery at the age of 77. In 2008, Terry was recognized with the Distinguished Alumnus Award for Professional Achievement. Terry is survived by his wife of 51 years, Leslie Candance Berger, daughter, Blair Kristen Berger and other family and friends. Jerelyn (Zweifel) Dybdahl ’68 passed away on Jan. 19, 2023, at the age of 77. Jerelyn graduated from Carroll with a bachelor’s in education. She was the beloved wife of 51 years to Dolan, loving mother of Brendon (Debra) and David (Emily), cherished grandmother and dear sister-in-law. Further survived by other relatives and friends. Judith “Judy” Ann (Wikle) Ottman ’68 died at age 77 on Mar. 12, 2024. She is survived by her husband of 56 years Richard “Dick” Ottman whom she met at Carroll. Judy is also survived by her sister, Maren Ray, daughter Gerda Ottman (Wade Eckhoff), daughter Kaarin Ottman (Isaac Larson), her grandchildren and other relatives and friends. David A. Powell ’68 passed away on June 28, 2024, at the age of 77. David earned his bachelor’s in art and art education. He studied under Wis Guthrie who had a strong influence on David’s development as an artist and use of found objects in his own artwork. A respected artist and art teacher, he is survived by his wife Diane B. Powell ’68 and son Joshua A. Powell. 1970s Gail L. (Perlewitz) Jacobs ’72 passed away, no obituary could be found. Jeffrey A. “Jeff” Reigle ’73, age 72, of Kewaskum, WI went to his heavenly home on Nov. 22, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. Jeff is survived by her son Keith (Jane) and daughter, Michelle (Ryk) Paradis, and other family members. John Everrett Colburn Jr. ’64 peacefully passed away at home in Columbia, MD on Oct. 13, 2022, surrounded by family and friends. John is survived by his beloved wife, Mary Conley Colburn, children, John Kevin Colburn (Erika), Carrie Simon, Kathy Colburn, and other family members. Described as inimitable and beloved, Kaaren L. (Andersen) Nowicki ’64 died of colon cancer on Feb. 22, 2024, at home, surrounded by loving family. While attending Carroll she met her adoring husband, Steve. Kaaren is survived by husband Steve, son Andy (Jenny), brother Jason, sister Patricia (Mark) Bromley, and other family members. V. Kirt Fiegel ’64 loving husband and father, successful businessman, civic leader, philanthropist, and great friend, passed away in Elkhorn, WI on July 26, 2023, at the age of 81, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Kirt is survived by his wife, Dixie, daughters Andrea, Laurie (Jason) Matesevac, and brother, Todd. Dr. Richard “Dick” J. Watkins ’65, professor emeritus of chemistry, died at AngelsGrace Hospice in Oconomowoc on Jan. 22, 2024, at the age of 82. Personally, and professionally, Carroll played an integral role in the life of Dick. He majored in chemistry and was active in a multitude of activities and organizations, including the independent men’s club, orientation and homecoming committees, “C” club, dorm counselor, Kappa Delta Pi, and member of the men’s basketball and tennis teams. Watkins also met and was married on Carroll’s campus to his late wife, Roberta (Illingworth) Watkins ‘65. After graduating from Carroll, Dick was awarded a PhD in Chemistry from Indiana University in 1969. He taught 31 years as a Chemistry Professor, seven at Cornell College in Iowa and 24 at Carroll University, nurturing and developing young scientific minds. Watkins was known as the guru of organic chemistry, teaching the full-year sequence of Organic I and II, Advanced Organic, and Instrumentation. Memorial contributions to the Richard J. Watkins Endowed Scholarship in Chemistry Fund at Carroll University are appreciated. Sara (Martin) Potthast ’65 of Woodstock IL, passed away at 80 on Nov. 7, 2023, in her home. Sara graduated from Carroll with a bachelor’s degree in fine arts. She worked for Harris Bank, Chicago (now BMO) from 1965 - 2005, rising to vice-president before retiring to work alongside her husband at his law office. Sara is survived by her husband James, step-daughters, Lara Coler and Jolie McGuigan, her brother Bruce Martin and other family and friends. Ann D. (Klug) Musche ’66 passed away, obituary could not be found. Beverley A. (Vetter) Letcher ’67 of Durand, IL died peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Nov. 12, 2023, at the age of 78. Beth was a lifelong educator. To know her was to know the kindest soul who loved deeply and served humbly. Beverley is survived by her husband, George, children Kathy Letterman, Andy (Krista LeBaron) Letcher, Amy (Jeff) Wasil and David (Alyssa) Letcher. Calvin “Cal” Henry George ’67 of Santa Fe, NM, passed away at 77 in April 2023, from complications of cancer. Cal received his BA from Carroll College and MA from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He founded the Community HealthCorps, a federal AmeriCorps program to improve the capacity and effectiveness of communitybased health care delivery designed to increase medical care for the underserved and improve patient self-management. As National Director, he grew the organization to a country-wide program. A lover of all the arts, Cal was an incredible photographer with a minimalist approach and had photos displayed in Santa Fe galleries. He is survived by his wife Pat, daughter Karen Tiliakos, son Mark Steven Tiliakos, sister Catharine Margaret Bailes (Keith), and other relatives and friends. Margaret D. (Staley) Truesdale ’67 passed away on Sept. 11, 2023, at the age of 77. She is survived by her husband Carl Truesdale, whom she met while at Carroll, son Thomas, daughters Marie and Carla, and six grandchildren. Margaret was an avid bird watcher and outdoor enthusiast.
