He served on the Carroll Board of Trustees from 1995-2004. He is survived by his wife, Jean; sons, Matthew (Meghann), Ryan (Katie), and Scott (Ashley); six grandchildren; father, James; siblings, Jenny (Peter) Zack, and Doug Reigle and many other family and friends. Kenneth W. Koprowski ’73 of Pewaukee, passed away peacefully at his home on Jan. 9, 2024, at age 72 after a courageous battle with cancer for 7 years. Kenneth is survived by his wife, Cynthia, children Ashley (Randy) Behnke, Craig (Emily) Koprowski, his grandchildren and siblings Carol (Donald) Fanning, Donna (Richard) Gales, and Sandy (Roger) Erdman. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews and friends. Thomas J. Flanary ’73 passed away at the age of 70 on Mar. 27, 2021, after a lengthy illness. Tom is survived by siblings, Michael, Timothy, Patrick and Kelly Ann. Carol Jean (Harms) Brooks ’75 of Post Lake, WI, passed away unexpectedly at age 70 on May 26, 2024, at her home. Carol is survived by her husband Ken, children, Steve (Nichole) Brooks, Laura Brooks, Ryan (Claire) Brooks, and four grandchildren. Ross D. Milbrath ’75 a retired elementary school teacher for Waukesha public schools, passed away at the age of 69 on July 1, 2023. Ross is survived by his sister, Dianne Engel, and other relatives and friends. William J. Laubenheimer ’75 died unexpectedly on July 19, 2023, at the age of 67 while traveling in Winnipeg, Canada. William is survived by his wife of 23 years, his siblings, their families and other relatives and friends. Following an arduous and valiant fight against cancer, Michelle “Shelly” Elizabeth (Zakrzewski) Busby ’76 passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Aug. 21, 2023 at the age of 69. Shelly was a loved and respected educator. She received several honors during her tenure including Counselor of the Year in Kansas City and the Kindest Kansas Citian award. She is survived by her husband of 33 years, Steve, her daughter Sara (Al) Ralston, her grandchildren, nieces and nephews. José A. Olivieri ’78, an accomplished attorney and devoted civic leader, died on June 9, 2024, from cancer. José was a pillar of the Hispanic community and an esteemed Managing Partner at the law firm Michael Best and Friedrich, where he worked for over forty years. Born in Santurce, Puerto Rico, he was recruited to Carroll where he met Jeanne (Nikolai) Olivieri ’79. The two were married in 1978, and they made a home, a family, and a legacy in Milwaukee. He received his juris doctorate from Marquette University Law School in 1981 and joined Michael Best as an associate that same year. José was no stranger to service serving on the boards of a long list of organizations that strive to make the greater Milwaukee community a better place to work and live. He was someone who brought vision and leadership to the many organizations with which he was associated. He was the recipient of the 2000 Carroll University Distinguished Alumni Award for Community Service. He served on many boards through greater Milwaukee including the Greater Milwaukee Foundation, Milwaukee Art Museum, Milwaukee Public Library, Latino Arts, Milwaukee Urban League, La Casa de Esperanza, Legal Action of Wisconsin, Hispanic Economic Enterprises, University of Wisconsin Board of Regents, and United Community Center. He was instrumental in the growth of the UCC and was a leader in the joining of the United Community Center and the Bruce Guadalupe Community School under one roof. He served on the Carroll Board of Trustees from 2009-2019 and was Board Chair. He is survived by his wife, Jeanne ’79; his three children, Elisa, Lucas and Elena; and his sister-in-laws, Beth (Nikolai) Heyrman ’80 and Mary (Nikolai) Kollmansberger ’82. Eileen A. Fesco ’79 passed away unexpectedly at OSF St. Francis Medical Center at age 66 in Peoria, IL on Oct. 28, 2023, following a vehicle accident. Eileen is survived by her father, Dr. Edward Fesco and siblings, John, Nora, Carol and Beth. She was preceded in death by her mother, Anne and sister, Mary. William “Bill” E. Richards ’79 of Downers Grove, IL, died suddenly of heart failure on Apr. 2, 2024, at age 69. He met his wife Sandra L. Wegner-Richards ’79 at Carroll with whom he established the William E. ’79 & Sandra L. Richards ’79 Endowed Scholarship. He was also a member of the Business Advisory Council from 2013-2018. William is survived by his wife, Sandy, and children Victoria (Jay) Maxwell and Beckett Richards. 1980s Joseph B. Horn ’80 of Longmont, CO, passed away at 63, on Jan. 16, 2022. Diane K. (Dwyer) De La Santos ’81, beloved founder of City on a HillMilwaukee, passed from this earthly life into her heavenly home, on Jan. 18, 2024, at the age of 72, after a courageous fight with cancer. Diane was awarded the Distinguished Alumna Award for Community Service by Carroll in 2016. She is survived by daughter, Adela, son Daniel and siblings Debra (Dan) Nordquist, Mark (Barbara) Dwyer, Karen Dwyer and David (Miranda) Dwyer. Dr. George P. Rooney ’82 of Glasgow, KY passed away on Jan. 22, 2024, at age 64 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Dr. Rooney is survived by his wife, Lilly; his daughter, Katherine Klein and other family members. Ehrick “Eric” V. Long ’84 passed away on Feb. 29, 2024, at 62. Ehrick was offered a full, four-year scholarship to a prestigious undergraduate school, but chose Carroll based on its music program and offerings (his concentration was the keyboard and clarinet). Ehrick is survived by his mother, Earnesteen, sisters Amy and Amina (Robert) Wilkins and other family members. David J. McCormick ’85 a resident of Mesa, AZ entered eternal rest at age 76 on Feb. 8, 2024. David is survived by his wife Annette (Fernandez), daughters Jennifer Murphy, Alison Schmidt (Gary), brothers Scott (Robin), Terry (Cathy), Steve (Nadine), and other family members. 1990s Kriss A. (Handeland) Loftus ’90 of Carol Stream, IL passed away on July 5, 2024 at the age of 66. Kriss is survived by her husband, Tim Loftus, her daughter, Tara Jade Pietz and partner Alex Mharcei, step-children, grandchildren and siblings, Jack, Jill and Tom and ex-husbands, Mark Sankey and Michael Pietz. Michele F. Reed-Hudson ’90, age 55 of Cecil, passed away on Oct. 21, 2023. She graduated from Carroll with a bachelor’s in criminal justice and worked as a dispatcher for the Menominee Tribal Police Department, as Menominee County Clerk, and at Maehnowesekiyah Wellness Center. Michele is survived by her parents Philip and Janice, siblings Lowell, Jolene, Heather (Donnie) Trainor and other family and friends. Thomas Burton Weaver III ’94, beloved husband, father, and coach, passed away on Apr. 9, 2024. He earned a bachelor’s degree in sociology with a minor in human services. Throughout his career, he advocated for children and adults with disabilities, working to help them set and reach specific goals that would contribute to an improved quality of life. Wallschlaeger ’14 passed away at the age of 41 on Dec. 28, 2023.
